Welcome to the Surrey Managed Learning Environment (MLE) information web site. Here you will find information on the Surrey Personalised Learning Space (PLS) and the recommended learning platform Fronter. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has set the expectation that:

  • by spring 2008 every pupil should have access to a personalised online learning space with the potential to support an e-portfolio
  • by 2010 every school should have integrated learning and management systems”.

Surrey commissioned VT Four S to specify and cost the provision of a Personalised Learning Space (PLS) solution for Surrey schools and run a mini-competition for a learning platform partner to meet these DCSF targets.

Surrey Personalised Learning Space (PLS).
Roll out of to schools commenced with secondary schools in the summer term 2009 following a final period of testing. Roll out for all other Surrey schools is currently underway. Schools will be sent a letter advising them of how to enable access for their pupils and staff.  Access for pupils is not dependent on the learning platform a school chooses to procure.

Currently, PLS will enable pupils/students to store and retrieve their work. It is not intended to replace a school’s network provision. It can be used by pupils to store current work which they can then access online from any location. It will also enable access to significant pieces of work pupils save when they move to a different school within Surrey.

Fronter Learning Platform – Surrey Recommended Provider

Surrey asked VT Four S to run a mini-competition from the Becta Learning Services Framework to recommend a preferred supplier. A Touchstone Group of Surrey schools has selected Fronter as the preferred Learning Platform provider.
On behalf of Surrey County Council, VT Four S has worked with Fronter to develop this initial two year deal at preferential rates for Surrey schools.
Details of the Full Fronter Offer can be found on the Surrey Offer section on this site
